Designing for Cloud Security Innovation

At Cyscale, I worked alongside a brilliant team of engineers, product managers, and marketers to transform how users interact with a platform that helps businesses protect sensitive data in the public cloud through automation, compliance monitoring, and real-time risk detection.

As a Senior Designer my mission was to bring clarity to complexity—redesigning the product experience, optimizing the marketing site, and supporting the go-to-market (GTM) efforts with strategic design and compelling visual storytelling.

Complex Product, Growing Needs, and a Fragmented Experience

Cyscale was evolving fast. With a complex platform and a growing set of cloud security features, the company faced several interconnected design challenges:

  • The UX and UI of the app needed refinement to support user workflows and surface critical security insights more intuitively.

  • The marketing website wasn’t converting as effectively as it could, especially when it came to high-value content like technical whitepapers.

  • New features were being introduced, but onboarding and explanation tools were limited.

  • There was a need to align product design with sales and marketing goals to support conversions and retention.

In short, we needed a cohesive design system and strategy that could scale with the product—and help users unlock its full potential.

Goal

My Role and Approach

As Senior Design Consultant, I provided end-to-end design leadership. My approach combined user-centered design thinking, agile collaboration, and a bias for action. Here’s how I tackled the challenge:

🔹 App UX & UI Overhaul

  • Conducted product audits and heuristic evaluations.

  • Collaborated with the product team to identify friction points in navigation, visual hierarchy, and task flows.

  • Redesigned the interface to surface insights faster and support contextual analysis of security misconfigurations.

  • Used Figma to prototype flows and components, ensuring consistency and reusability.

🔹 Cross-Team Workshops & Feature Integration

  • Facilitated design workshops and collaborative ideation sessions to shape product roadmap decisions.

  • Coordinated research with PMs to validate concepts for new compliance features (e.g. ISO 27001, SOC 2 dashboards).

  • Integrated new capabilities into the platform with an emphasis on reducing cognitive load.

🔹 Website Redesign & A/B Testing

  • Led a full redesign of the marketing site, focusing on storytelling, usability, and SEO.

  • Ran A/B tests on landing pages to determine the most effective layouts and content strategies.

  • Optimized the blog, technical documentation, and whitepaper pages—resulting in a notable uplift in lead generation from organic traffic.

 

🔹 Video Creation for Product Education

  • Produced a series of explainer videos for product onboarding and feature walkthroughs:

    • Wrote scripts and created storyboards.

    • Designed all motion graphics and UI animations.

    • Used AI-generated voiceovers and recorded demo sequences.

  • These videos became key tools for sales, support, and onboarding, saving hours of manual explanation.

🔹 Brand Consistency & Visual Systems

  • Established a unified design language across product, web, and marketing assets.

  • Provided design guidelines and UI libraries for smoother collaboration with developers and content creators.

Results

Thanks to a collaborative effort across teams, we delivered measurable outcomes:

  • 🚀 Increased organic leads through blog and whitepaper optimization.
  • 🧠 Improved product usability, helping users resolve security issues faster.
  • 📈 Shorter sales cycles enabled by clear, compelling product videos.
  • 🤝 Stronger cross-functional alignment between design, marketing, product, and GTM teams.

This project was a great example of how strategic design can serve not only end users, but also empower marketing, sales, and product teams. By simplifying complexity and turning insight into interface, I helped Cyscale scale more confidently into the next stage of its growth.
